INT. AUCTION HOUSE – LONDON
‘Let’s see how badly he wants it.’
OCTOPUSSY / 1983
To mark the sixtieth anniversary month of Commander Bond, long-standing ally and world leading auction house Christie’s is holding two rather lush events of 007 lots made up of some delicious and often rare items, one-offs, luxuries and Bond curios. Set amidst the opulent viewing rooms of Christie’s headquarters at St. James Street in London, the veritable Q-Branch of 007 originals is beyond delicious.
Spread over two auctions, Christie’s Sixty Years of James Bond – The Charity Auctions mark a traditional marriage of Bond and the long-standing auction house. Bond’s fiftieth anniversary was celebrated by Christie’s with a grand auction attended by – including many – Sir Roger Moore himself. And in 2015, Spectre was marked with a charity sale and another rich cast list of items surrounding and within Daniel Craig’s penultimate Bond bullet.
With both an invite-only LIVE AUCTION on September 28th 2022 and an ONLINE AUCTION that extends from September 16 to Bond’s actual anniversary on October 5 2022, the collections up for sale include Bond’s suits, villain curios (who does not want Primo’s eyeball from No Time to Die!), unique stills, powerhouse cars, costumes, clapperboards, posters, original villain blueprints, bowties, Tom Ford suits, Moonraker costume pieces, original music sheets, screen-used props, a five-night stay at Goldeneye in Jamaica, commemorative timepieces, villain’s costumes, production pieces, original Ian Fleming novels, and a unique Bollinger champagne experience.
With iconic lots from the last Bond bullet No Time to Die and all of the EON-produced Bond adventures alongside original Ian Fleming tomes, all six of the 007s so far will also be commemorated with the full cast list of lots taking in each and every era of Bond’s sixty-year movie reign. Sixty items in total will be benefitting forty-five different charities across the multi-platform event – including many close to the hearts of the Bond actors, producers, welfare groups and the wider cinema and arts industries in Britain.
Personally, this staunch bullet-catching Octopussy defender truly adores the Swarovski embossed Faberge egg from Bond ’83. Chosen to remember Sir Roger Moore, the egg that is aligned to an auction house scene from Octopussy is a truly beautiful item echoing the femininity and jewelry caper riches of John Glen’s second Bond film as director.
Many thanks to Adrian Hume-Sayer, David Walliams, the staff at Christie’s and EON Productions.
