As all goldeneyes look to James Bond’s next era, incarnation, universe and creatives, 007 and gaming fans can be consoled by the almost business as usual tone, palette and style of the first full look at IO Interactive’s 007 First Light!

At least five years in development, IO Interactive (Hitman) have revealed the slick new gameplay world of 007’s newest gaming adventure and the first new era title to emerge since Amazon MGM Studios took creative reins of the Bond franchise. On the drawing boards way before the new production team was announced for Bond 26, 007 First Light is a game reset at a moment when just how the cinematic Bond will be uploaded for Amazon’s first spin of the Fleming dice.

From a young recruit Bond born the year of The World is Not Enough (1999) to an Aston Martin in the same colours as Roger Moore’s marque in The Persuaders via a cracking use of Bond’s newest signature theme (John Barry’s On Her Majesty’s Secret Service Theme), classic tropes gift wrapped in new ways, new Whitehall staff and one eye clearly on Ian Fleming’s world, 007 First Light looks to be a rich, fun and slick save point in the Bond gaming timeline. With the next James Bond being unveiled as Irish actor Patrick Gibson (Dexter – The Original Sin), IO Interactive have returned 007 to his scarred face literary roots.

Based on a wholly original adventure created by the development agents at IO Interactive, 007 First Light invites players to step into the shoes of a young, stubborn Royal Navy air recruit Bond as he signs up to a new guard at MI6.

IO Interactive boasts how ‘fans will be able to experience Bond’s ascent at MI6 from a young 26-year-old recruit into a full-fledged spy – immersing them in the exotic and dangerous world of espionage captured in the films. Bond’s adventures will take players all around the globe, coming face to face with allies and foes (or in some cases, both), while choosing how they overcome obstacles and challenges, whether it be with brute force, cunning guile, or charming wit.’

“With 25 years of experience in creating captivating action-adventure games with the Hitman franchise, our studio has been energized with this monumental opportunity in harnessing that expertise in bringing 007 back to video games. We’re pouring our energy and passion for the franchise into creating a cinematic adventure that pushes the boundaries of what a James Bond game can be, while telling a fresh, new story. We can’t wait for players and fans to discover an experience tailor-made for them.”

Hakan Abrak, CEO of IO Interactive
